10 Essential Hairfall Rescue Tips

Guest Post by Shruti Lakshman

Hiee!! You can call me a late bloomer!! What I mean to say is that I got introduced to the fascinating world of skin care, hair care and makeup very recently.:) I am a software engineer from Mumbai but now based in Chennai. I spend a considerable amount of my time in office looking at beauty blogs and that's when I came across this blog ;). I love the fact that you review goodies which are affordable and the tips you give me are quite useful. I love writing and its been a long time since I wrote something apart from software codes!! I also love animals (be it fluffy, four legged or 3 legged). This is my 1st article on anything related to beauty and hope you all like it!!

Given the stressful lives we all live nowadays, I am not surprised to see everybody complaining of 1 thing! Yes, I am talking about hair loss. The crowning glory on which we, not just women but men too nowadays, spend a lot of time taking care of. I live in a humid city where no matter how many times I wash my face, I start looking like an overflowing oil can. I find time to wash my face but not my hair often (Yes you can imagine its state then!!!). So here are certain things I follow to ensure that I don’t end up looking like Mogambo ( if you havn’t seen Mr India , go watch it)

  • First and foremost, never comb wet hair. It’s something we all do when we are pressed for time (guilty). But wet hair equals fragile hair which easily tends to break. Let it dry naturally.

  • Always use a wide toothed comb. People say its difficult to comb with it but trust me. It’s easier than it looks.

  • Towel drying is another issue.  Picture this. A piece of cloth being washed on the stone by beating it repeatedly on the stone. Now replace the stone with your hair. Get it? Just gently rub the towel on your hair.

  • ALWAYS COVER your hair with something when you travel. Use old dupattas.

  • Use shampoos which do not have SLS, SLES and parabens.

  • Do not use conditioner every time you shampoo. Restrict it to once a week or 2.

  • Essential oils like Rosemary, Clary Sage and Basil are very good for combating hair fall. Add a couple of drops to coconut, olive or almond oil and apply it to your scalp. Worked wonders for me!!

  • Do not tie up your hair too tightly. It makes hair vulnerable. Also gives a headache.

  • Every night comb your hair atleast once to remove knots.

  • AND THE MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL- Do not stress too much about hair fall. You stress, your hair stresses. It’s a vicious cycle.

I hope these small tips help you guys. Stay stress free and have a good hair day!!

Hair Loss After Pregnancy - How to Cure? [Reader Query]

Paromita asks..

Once I used to have extremely shining & voluminous hair, after my marriage & post-pregnancy my hair loss happened in extreme level, no beauty is there in my hair, specially hair ends got very thin & gives a bad shape. Greying has also happened in multiples, which is quite viewable. I hardly gets time to care for my hair, every 15days i do henna & I use every alternate day VLCC Shampoo, but it doesn't affect a lot, my hair got thin & now I am planning to have my hair cut first & then to take care of my hair, so that I can get my healthy hair just like before, pls let me know what can I use & how to use.  Kindly help me.

MABH Answers..

Hi Parmita. Post pregnancy hair falls happen due to harmone imbalance. First of all, you need to talk to your doctor. Taking B complex, Biotin, Zinc, C & E Vitamin supplements help a lot in controlling hair fall and maintaining good hair health. Consult your physician before deciding to take these supplements. Hot Oil treatments help a lot when it comes to thinning of hair because it improves the blood circular in scalp and promotes hair growth. Mix equal parts coconut oil, castor oil and olive oil. For 100 ml of this oil mixture, poke 4-5 Vitamin E Capsules (Evion is a good brand of Vitamin E and it is widely available) to extract the oil. Pour this vitamin E oil to the already prepared oil mixture and store it in an old hair oil container. Heat this oil and massage your scalp with this once to twice a week for faster results. Adding dried curry leaf powder and tulsi powder to this oil doubles the benefits. Soaking dried Amla fruits in your regular hair oil and using it regularly helps control gray hair. Adding curry leaves in your daily diet also helps in darkening of gray hairs. If you have more split ends and thin hair, you can trim them for an inch and continue your hair care regime, so that it would help in maintaining good hair but don't trim more, simple is enough.

Secret tip from my mom:
Eat 5-10 dates and curry leaves gravy everyday!! This was my mom's secret tip to maintain long, healthy hair. Read more tips of her for hair care here

Use a mild herbals shampoo to cleanse your hair once in 3-4 days and never ever wash hair frequently as it would cause moisture loss. Add egg whites, spinach, curry leaves and carrots in your daily diet to achieve healthy hair. Last but not the least, leave stress and have a nice Good "Night" sleep. Remember sleeping in night is more important to maintain good health and beauty. All the best for your beautiful hair. Hope you will write back to us about the improvement in coming months. Take care Parmoita :)

In this post, I am going to review one of the shampoo from head and shoulders and it is Head and Shoulders Smooth and Silky Anti-Dandruff Shampoo. This is specially formulated for dandruff cure without drying out the hair, so that the hair shines smooth and silky. Let me review it with my experience of 1 month of daily usage.

Consistency and Color of the Shampoo

The Opening Cap

My View about Head and Shoulders Smooth and Silky Shampoo
I bought this product long back and used it for about a month. To say about packaging, the shampoo comes in a white plastic bottle which is flat, curvy at one side with a turning cap. The bottle is lovely white in color with pink shades in it and with a blue cap. I loved the simple packaging which looks cute except the turning cap, because it was little tough to open/close it and to take the shampoo out, sometimes I struggle to take out some shampoo and the other times, the shampoo flows much from the bottle. It also becomes clumsy around with shampoo flowing outside (sticky) :(  I think it would be much better if they use a flip flop model cap instead of this.
The consistency of the shampoo is not too thick, it's not runny too. It is thick, creamy enough and milkish white in color. I loved the flowery fragrance which this shampoo delivers :) I did not expect this kind of yummy fragrance from an anti-dandruff shampoo because most of the anti-dandruff shampoos gives only chemical smells :P I had mild dandruff and there were no much expectations for this shampoo at first from my side. The very first time I used it, I felt this shampoo lathers good and rinses out easily. I felt my scalp became free from dandruff up to an extent and my hair was smooth and smelling nice after rinsing my hair with this shampoo.
I tried this shampoo for a week without conditioner and another week along with conditioner, I do have dry hair so it suited me only when I used it along with conditioner. When I used the shampoo alone without conditioning for a week, it striped out my natural oils gradually and made my hair little frizzy even though it softens hair at that instant. Lets move on to the pros of cons of Head and Shoulders Smooth and Silky :D

PROS
  • Reasonably priced for the good quantity and quality.
  • I was impressed of the lovely flower like fragrance which makes every hair wash special and my hair was smelling nice on the days I shampooed my hair.
  • Lathers well and gets rinsed off easily.
  • Reduces dandruff and prevents it up to an extent.
  • Unlike the anti-dandruff shampoos, it doesn't dry out my hair. It made my hair really smooth and silky up to a good extent when used along with the conditioner.

CONS
  • The packaging :( makes it hard and clumsy to use. It would be better if the shampoo comes in a flip flop cap.
  • Few of my cousins experienced little hair fall when they suddenly changed to this shampoo, it might be the chemicals and alcohol ingredients causing it in dry scalps for some people. For me, it was all right.
  • It doesn't contain any natural ingredients and when I failed to rinse properly with lots of fresh water after lathering, the shampoo remaindered in my scalp and started appearing like flakes.
My Recommendation: Overall, I recommend oily and normal scalps who have dandruff to try this shampoo. Dry scalps will need a heavy nourishing conditioner if you want to use it.
My Rating: 4/5 (-1 for the packaging)

Best Home Treatment for Hair Loss

Many of our visitors asked me to write a post which gives natural and herbal remedies for thinning and falling hair. Hair loss is caused when your hair strands get weak and fall out. There are many causes for hair loss such as..
  • Vitamin deficiency
  • Loss of good night sleep
  • Mental stress
  • Improper maintenance
  • Hard water hair wash
  • Particular medicines
  • Pollution and dust
There are also other reasons like harsh combing, avoiding hair oils which nourishes hair which prevents dryness and breakage and usage of chemical cosmetics such as hair straighteners and hair sprays.

So, what can we do to promote healthy hair growth and prevent further hair loss or damage? Do we need to search for branded hair oils or run behind chemical lotions which claims faster hair growth? Do you think they will work? There is a great risk of losing your hair by using scented chemical hair products and cosmetics.
The best thing to do in your home to prevent hair loss and promote regrowth of hair is few natural and organic treatments, which causes no side effects. They keep your hair nourished and prevents hair loss in a very natural way, thus your hair grows healthier, softer and stronger. Let me explain in this post about a Castor oil Hot oil massage home treatment which works very effectively in preventing hair loss.

Castor oil is a vegetable oil which is extracted from the Castor bean. It's very thick in consistency and has a bit uncomfortable smell, but yet it acts as a best natural hair tonic which has lots and lots of hair repairing and nourishing properties. Get pure Castor oil from your nearest grocery shop and store it in a cool dry place.

USES OF CASTOR OIL IN HAIRCARE
  • Nourishes hair and prevents dryness.
  • Makes your hair says goodbye to split ends :))
  • It's antioxidants prevents scalp infection which causes hair fall.
  • Improves blood circulation in your scalp and strengthens hair roots.
  • Promotes faster hair growth that you can visibly see the difference.
  • Eliminates dandruff and leaves hair silky soft for sure :D
  • Thickens hair and makes it shinier with regular use.

HOT OIL MASSAGE WITH CASTOR OIL
  • Take required Castor oil in a small bowl.
  • Extract oil from 2 Vitamin E capsules and mix with the Castor oil (I use Evion Vitamin E capsules :) )
  • Blend this oil mixture well and heat it.
  • After the oil mixture warms down, apply it over your hair and scalp covering the entire hair surface in bearable heat.
  • Use finger tips and palms to massage your scalp gently. Rub the oil gently over split ends too.
  • Now wear a plastic cap over your head and cover it up with a clean towel and leave the oil to penetrate and work on your hair for at least 30 minutes. You can also leave this oil overnight on your hair for better results :)
  • After that, rinse out your hair completely with plenty of fresh water and your regular shampoo without any oil residue.
  • Silky soft and smooth hair which even beats peacock feather is all yours! :D Believe me, I have tried it. Following this hair care routine at least once in a week gives best results within 5 uses, as I listed in the uses of Castor oil above.

NOTE : You can also add some grape seed, almond or any other essential oil with this oil mixture to reduce the thickness of the Castor oil and a little bit uncomfortable smell :P.

Do you still think about the parlor products and chemical lotions to reduce hair loss? :D I hope you all would have started loving Castor oil which gives you a beautiful hair after reading this post! :) Good luck. Leave your comments!

Get Super Soft and Shiny Hair at Home

Hi friends! I am back as I promised. I have bought you all few interesting tips and simple home remedies to get shiny soft hair. Many guys and girls are tired of their brush like rough hair which brings them a bad look. They worry a lot for their hair and uses chemical cosmetics which leads to hair loss or some other hair problems :(
Why should we go for chemical products when there are lot of things in our kitchen which can gives us silky soft hair? We can prepare our natural own hair care cosmetics! Want to know what are they? :) Keep reading! Let me write in this post, few herbal natural remedies and a hair serum which can makes your hair glitter!

Hey! I forgot to tell you all a thing. Do you know what is the secret of shiny soft hair? It is "Moisturized hair can only be soft and shiny". We always worry that our hair is not at all smooth but we never ever moisturize it with essential oils or any hair nourishing packs. Then from where will you get the shine hmm? When you regularize the hair moisturizing process, definitely you will get your beautiful shiny hair soon. Read below for few effective tips.

MY HAIR :)

ALOEVERA HAIR TREATMENT (Homemade Hair serum)
Aloevera is a good source of Vitamin E which adds nourishment to your hair and makes it softy softy! :) :) Believe or not.. Myself tried this aloevera serum and saw wonderful results on my hair. It's not a big process at all. Just take 2 fresh aloevera leaves, peel off the skin to get the Aloe gel. Now grind this gel in a mixy to make a paste. Apply this aloe serum over your hair and scalp, also in the split ends. Leave on for an hour and wash off with your regular shampoo. Shiny soft hair is all yours! :) When followed weekly, this homemade aloe hair serum does miracles to your hair.

CONDITIONING
Do you all know ? Conditioning is the main process which moisturizes hair and gives the shine. Every time we shampoo our hair, our hair loses moisture and becomes dry. To prevent this, use a good branded conditioner. Using conditioner every time after shampooing makes your hair really really soft as it moisturizes. So, never ever forget to condition if you want soft shiny hair. I use Dove, Garnier and L'Oreal conditioners :) They're quite good!

I have already mentioned the OILING PROCESS in my previous post, It also moisturizes your hair well and strengthens it from deeper to give you a wonderful, beautiful and mainly SHINY SOFT hair! Click HERE to read it!

Hope this post will be useful to you all. Leave your comments! Have a nice time! :)
